Boston’s Elite Law Enforcement Unit Selects New SIG 1911
EXETER, NH – After testing various models of 1911 pistols, including those by other major 1911 makers, the Boston Police Department’s Entry & Apprehension Team selected the new Revolution 1911 from SIG SAUER as their new special use duty pistol.
Boston’s special operations unit will transition to the Revolution, a 1911 style pistol, chambered in .45ACP which will be equipped with an ambidextrous safety and an enlarged magazine well for quick reloading. The pistol is manufactured at the SIG SAUER facility located an hour outside Boston in Exeter, New Hampshire.
“After extensive testing and evaluation of several different 1911s by our firearms instructors, the Boston Police Entry & Apprehension Team has committed to transition to the SIG SAUER Revolution 1911 in .45ACP,” said Thomas Lee, Deputy Superintendent and Commander Special Operations of the Boston Police Department. “I am grateful for the extraordinary efforts SIG SAUER has undertaken to make sure our entry team officers get the exact weapon they desire and we look forward to our new partnership with SIG SAUER.”
“We are extremely pleased to add Boston’s Entry & Apprehension Team, one of the country’s finest special operations units, to our growing list of law enforcement customers,” said Ray Reynolds, SIG SAUER Vice President for Law Enforcement Sales. “Since the days when law enforcement transitioned out of revolvers to semiautomatic pistols the SIG SAUER pistol has been the premier firearm in law enforcement. Today SIG SAUER’ new Revolution 1911 is making its mark in law enforcement.”
