Polymer-framed lightweight brings reliability to backup, pocket carry

EXETER, NH (January 2011) — SIG SAUER, Inc., the leading manufacturer of commercial, law enforcement and military firearms, introduces a new 9mm subcompact pistol that offers the reduced weight of a polymer frame and the exceptional quality of SIG SAUER®.

The P290™ offers superior ergonomics, flawless reliability and deep concealment, while still providing the defensive capability of the 9mm all contained in a sleek package measuring just one inch in width.

Unlike many small pistols, the P290 features drift adjustable sights in the standard SIG SAUER dovetails. This gives shooters the option of either standard contrast sights or SIGLITE® night sights. The slide is machined from a solid billet of stainless steel and is available in a natural stainless or a durable Nitron® coating.

Designed as a pocket or backup pistol, the P290 features a double-action only trigger for reliability and safety. In addition, the P290 features an automatic firing pin safety block, hammer safety intercept notch, and a trigger bar disconnect.

Magazine capacity is 6 rounds with the standard flush-fit magazine, and an optional 8 round extended capacity magazine is planned.

Despite its small size and weight (20.5 ounces with magazine), the P290 offers ergonomic features to fit a wide variety of shooters. A reversible magazine catch is left-hand adjustable. Interchangeable grip panels allow for personalization as well as a custom fit. In addition to the standard polymer inserts, optional panels will be available in aluminum, G10 and wood.

An optional Integrated Laser Module (ILM) is custom designed for the P290 pistol’s frame. Lightweight and compact, the ILM seamlessly blends with the lines of the pistol.
