SIG SAUER Academy instructors have years of experience in firearms instruction and defensive tactics gained from military, law enforcement and government agencies in addition to private research entities. STEVEn GILCREaST

Steven Gilcreast is the Director of Training at the SIG Sauer Academy. Steve has been with SIG SAUER since 2009 in various roles including Adjunct Instructor, Senior Instructor, Training Manager, and Pistol Product Manager. He has 20 years of combined military and law enforcement experience. Upon completing his active duty service in the United States Army, Steve became a full-time Law Enforcement Officer. As a full-time law enforcement officer, he was assigned to the department training unit as the range master specializing in recruit and in-service training, firearms training, use of force, and officer survival training. In addition, he was an Assistant Team Leader with his agency's SWAT Team.

He is a competitive shooter and member of the United States Practical Shooting Association.

Doug Flavin

Doug Flavin retired as a Sergeant from the MA State Police after 25 years of service. He spent 19 of those years on the Department Tactical Team, serving in various roles including sniper, sniper section leader, armorer, and Team Leader. Doug also retired from the Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant after 24 years of service. He began his career as an MP and deployed as part of Desert Shield/Storm. His last 10 years he was assigned as the NCOIC of small arms readiness and marksmanship training for the MA ARNG. Doug enjoys competing in USPSA and is a life member of the NRA.

Jon Carlson

Jon comes to the Sig Sauer Academy with more than twelve years of experience in both military and law enforcement tactical operations. He first discovered his passion for teaching as a young Special Forces Medic with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). While assigned there, he participated in deployments to the Middle East with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force- Arabian Peninsula (CJSOTF-AP). During deployments, a large part of his duties included instructing foreign counterparts in tactical medicine, close quarters battle, and urban movement, in addition to leading them during operations.

At the conclusion of Jon’s military service, he pursued a career in law enforcement. He continued to advance his skill set while a Police Officer by receiving Instructor certifications in Firearms, Use of Force, Defensive Tactics, Active Shooter and First Responder. Additionally, he was selected to the regional SWAT team where he carried out the entry team and tactical medic responsibilities.

Most recently, Jon worked in training and product development for a company specializing exclusively in tactical medicine. Based on personal experience and identified needs, he developed solutions to challenges faced by military and law enforcement personnel specific to casualty treatment and extraction in the field setting. Understanding that the challenges faced by our service members are constantly evolving, Jon worked closely with the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to address current needs in the field. The products Jon personally developed in conjunction with his military counterparts are utilized today to improve readiness and casualty care around the world and here at home.

dylan kenneson

Dylan is a life-long student and firearms instructor. He currently serves as a part time Deputy and Law Enforcement officer for departments in NH and has for the last 10 years. He is an active member of a Regional SWAT team filling various roles, and is also a certified LE firearms instructor for multiple states. Over the last decade he has trained thousands of students both foreign and domestic from a wide range of shooting backgrounds. Dylan’s areas of specialties cover LE/Military personnel, responsible armed citizens, competition shooters, as well as armorer programs. He enjoys competing in USPSA and IDPA and is a lifelong outdoorsman who has hunted all over North America.

Dave perkins

Dave spent 25 years in Law Enforcement, working in Patrol and Detective. He served as a Sergeant, Lieutenant and ultimately retired as the Operation Commander. He spent 18 years with SWAT, serving as a Sniper, Team Leader and Team Commander. Dave was the senior instructor for his departments Training Unit, holding several instructor level certifications in firearms and tactical instruction.

Chris Cavallaro

Cav currently teaches Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Precision Scoped Rifle, and Armorer courses, and also helps out with a handful of the Tactics courses offered at SIG SAUER Academy. He was an entry team leader for a regional SWAT Team that covers most of Southern New Hampshire and assisted the U.S. Secret Service in Counter Sniper Operations (Presidential Protection). Cav was a member of the training staff for SWAT, his police department, and the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy. He is also a certified instructor in defensive tactics, impact weapons, Taser, OC spray, and ground fighting. A graduate of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and was a team leader of the NU Mountain & Cold Weather Rescue Team. Cav trained for four years under U.S. Army Special Forces 10th Group cadre in mountain warfare, survival in all environments, rock and ice climbing, tracking, and high-angle rope rescue. He is also a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Eric palmer

Eric brings over 25 years of combined military, private security, and law enforcement experience to the Sig Sauer Academy. He is a Desert Storm veteran who served five years of active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps Air Wing. In the civilian sector, Eric held a Supervisory appointment, providing dedicated private maritime security.

Most recently, Eric retired with 20 years of service in law enforcement as a Police Officer in the Patrol Division for a municipality in Massachusetts. During this time, Eric also served as a Field Training Officer, a decorated K-9 handler, and a member of a regional SWAT team, which serviced over 50 cities and towns in Massachusetts. His notable contributions on the SWAT team include exemplary duties as an entry team operator and tactical SWAT K-9 handler.

Colin Murphy

Colin comes to the SIG SAUER Academy after medically retiring from the US Army where he spent the majority of his career as a U.S. Army Green Beret assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). Colin was assigned to 3rd SFG as an 18 Echo Communications Sergeant and would later become an 18F Intelligence Sergeant. While assigned there, he participated in multiple deployments to the Middle East with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force (CJSOTF). He also participated in two Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) deployments in support of U.S. State Department contingency operations in the EUCOM Area of Responsibility.

He has attended numerous pistol and rifle marksmanship schools and is passionate about sharing the knowledge he has gained over the years as a Special Operations Soldier.

Senior Instructor

Ross is a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force with 30 years of combined military and federal law enforcement experience. Most recently, Ross retired from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA, where he conducted firearms, tactics, active shooter response, and LE instructor training for military units, federal agencies, foreign agencies, and state/local departments across the U.S. and abroad. His military service includes over 20 years active duty in the U.S.A.F serving 10 years as a Special Agent with the USAF Office of Special Investigations where he conducted felony level investigations, counter terrorism missions, executive protection details, counterintelligence, and surveillance operations. He also served 10 years as a USAF Security Police/Forces member specializing in personnel and resource protection. He was a member of multiple Emergency Service Teams and the Nuclear Weapons Tactical Recapture Force. Ross is a combat veteran of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom where he directed off base force protection operations and led numerous counterintelligence missions and protective service operations.
