Double Stack

The term double stack refers to handgun ammunition magazines that accommodate two rows of cartridges loaded into them. The rounds typically sit in the magazine in two staggered rows. Many firearms—usually small, sub-compact defensive handguns or 1911s—feature so-called “single stack” magazines due to the handgun’s narrower grip geometry where a thicker, double-stack magazine wouldn’t fit.
