The term field of view refers to the area that can be seen through a firearm optic. The field of view changes with different magnification. There is less field of view at higher magnifications and a wider field of view with less magnification. Typically, the field of view, or “FOV,” of an optic is described as the amount in feet measured right to left that a shooter can see at 100 yards. A wider field of view is typically good for close or moving targets, while a narrow field of view is useful for precision shots at longer distances.
