IWB (Inside the Waistband)

IWB (Inside the Waistband)

There are many different ways to carry a handgun concealed, but by far the most popular is inside the waistband, or “IWB,” carry. This method uses a specially built inside the waistband holster designed to be worn between the waistband of an outer garment and the person’s body. The IWB holster secures to the waistband of the garment or a belt via clips or loops that are sized for the belt width. There are a variety of different IWB carry methods, but most concealed carriers wear their IWB holster at the 3 or 9-o’clock position (as measured from the belly button at 12 o’clock) or in a so-called “appendix” carry position. Typically, appendix carry, or “AIWB,” holsters are built differently than standard IWB holsters and use attachments to hold the holster closer to the body.
