Low-powered lasers are typically used as backup aiming devices for rifles and handguns. In most cases, lasers are housed in small, ruggedized, shock-resistant bodies that attach to the handguard of a rifle, accessory rail on the frame of a handgun or even on the optics mount of a rifle. Handgun lasers can also be built into a small flashlight that attaches to the accessory rail, delivering aiming options for the shooter in a variety of conditions. Typically, firearm lasers are either red or green, with green lasers being easier to see in daylight conditions. Military and law enforcement personnel who often use night vision equipment can opt for infrared lasers that project a beam that can only be seen using NVGs, thereby concealing the operator’s position.
