A pistol caliber carbine is a class of firearms that typically refers to rifle-length firearms that are chambered for common pistol cartridges. Most often, PCCs are constructed similarly to AR-15-style rifles—with common ergonomics and controls—but are designed specifically to accept magazines holding pistol-caliber ammunition and have operating systems and barrels built specifically for that ammunition. For example, the SIG SAUER MPX PCC is a rifle-length firearm that has ergonomics and functionality very similar to a typical AR-15 but is chambered in 9mm. Shooters are increasingly enthusiastic about PCCs, in large part due to their lower recoil and lower ammunition prices.
