Rangefinder

Rangefinder

A rangefinder is an optical device that allows a shooter to quickly determine the distance to a target. Rangefinders use a non-visible laser aimed at a target that projects from the device which is reflected back to the device. The rangefinder measures the time it takes for the laser to return to the device to determine the distance to the target. The rangefinder projects the distance—usually in meters or yards—via a digital display in the viewing window. Rangefinders tend to be monocular optics to allow for one-handed use and to reduce weight. Rangefinders also come in different levels of capability to measure at longer distances, but they are typically at a fixed magnification. Many long-range precision shooters use rangefinders to dial in their optics for different distances; rangefinders are also often used by hunters to determine the distance to game.
