Baffles are an internal component of suppressors. A baffle is typically a thin metal, cone-shaped part that is inserted into a cylindrical tube that forms the suppressor’s outer shell. The so-called “baffle stack” disrupts the gas expended from a fired round, thereby muffling the sound of the shot. Suppressors designed for use on centerfire firearms often use a series of baffles to trap the expended gas from a fired round. Usually, centerfire suppressors are designed with a series of three or more baffles. Some suppressors can be disassembled so users can clean and maintain the internal baffles.
