A clip is a piece of material to which firearm ammunition is attached to for transportation and convenient loading into a firearm receiver, revolver cylinder, or a firearm magazine. The term “clip” is often incorrectly used to describe a firearm magazine, which is a device that holds ammunition and is inserted into a semi-automatic firearm. Most clips are so-called “stripper clips,” which is a single piece of material that secure rounds in a stacked row by attaching to a cartridge’s rim. Half-moon clips are used to secure pistol rounds for loading into the cylinder of a revolver.
