The ejector is the part of a firearm that removes a spent case from the firearm after a shot is fired. On semi-automatic handguns, the ejector is usually a fixed part of the fire control unit. On semi-automatic rifles, the ejector is located inside the bolt. The term ejector can also be used to refer to multi-barrel shotguns where “ejectors” throw the hulls of spent shells away from the barrel. This is different from an “extractor” which only slightly removes the hull from a shotgun barrel, allowing the shooter to grip the brass head to be removed manually.
