Holster

Holster

A holster is a device used to safely transport a firearm, generally on the body, that also allows a handgun to be rapidly deployed by the shooter. There are many types of holsters built from a variety of materials, including leather, plastic, or reinforced fabrics. Some cover the entire handgun and have retention systems that require a shooter to release a button or lever to remove the handgun. Others only cover a portion of the handgun.  For safety, it is important that any holster completely cover the trigger and trigger guard when the handgun is placed into it. This protects the trigger from being activated by debris or clothing causing a negligent discharge. It is critical when purchasing a holster that the shooter makes sure that it fits their handgun properly. There are also many different holster designs. Some are made to attach to a belt on the outside of a shooter’s garments; some are made to be inserted inside an operator’s waistband; still others are designed to hold a firearm inside a bag or purse. There are even holsters designed to be worn on the shoulder and others that are built to be worn on the ankle.
