The term “iron sights” generally refers to non-electronic sights placed on a firearm by the manufacturer. They are usually constructed of metal or plastic materials that are integrated into the slide of a handgun or barrel and frame of a revolver or attached to the barrel and receiver of a rifle. Some iron sights are removable and adjustable, others are attached permanently to the firearm. Iron sights generally consist of a rear notch or a circular “peep” and a vertical front sight post that must be properly aligned for an accurate shot.
