Single Acton (SA)

Single Acton (SA)

Single action describes a firing mode where the hammer is cocked manually and then released with the pull of the trigger. SIG Sauer models which function a single action include 1911, P210, P220, P226, P229, P238, P938, and P322, all of which include a manual safety. Other models of single-action firearms exist such as single-action revolvers from pre-1900, a multitude of .22 semi-auto pistols of various manufacturers, as well as a variety of single or double-barreled derringer-type firearms, including some modern miniature revolvers. This is distinct from double action where the pull of the trigger not only cocks the hammer rearward but also releases it from that position, thereby firing the weapon (two actions).
