The term single-stage refers to a type of firearm trigger function. In the simplest terms, a single-stage trigger requires a continuous pull with the same amount of force from the start of the pull to when the trigger “breaks” the shot. This is distinct from dual-stage triggers that feature a lighter trigger weight at the beginning of the pull, with a stiffer “wall” in the second part of the pull before the shot breaks. Single-stage and dual-stage triggers are typically found in rifles and can both vary in quality depending on the manufacturer and design. It is an end-user’s personal preference as to which type of trigger is preferred.
