The term windage is used in firearms ballistics to describe the horizontal deviation of a projectile from the point of aim. In simpler terms, windage is used to refer to the left and right adjustment of an optic or a shot, while elevation is used to describe the up or down adjustment of a shot or optic. You might hear a spotter say, “adjust your windage 2 MOA left,” meaning the shot landed 2 MOA from the point of aim to the right. Most optics are made with dials, or “turrets,” that allow the shooter to adjust both windage and elevation to obtain the most accurate shot on target.
