2022 has been a historic year for SIG SAUER, marked by our selection as the company chosen to transform the U.S. Military with the Next Generation Squad Weapons program. This year also saw a number of innovative new products from SIG SAUER making it a year to remember. Here are the top moments of 2022. 

In April, after a rigorous 27-month testing and evaluation process, SIG SAUER was awarded the Next Generation Squad Weapons System (NGSW) Contract by the U.S. Army. The contract includes The SIG FURY Hybrid Ammunition (6.8 Common Cartridge), SIG-LMG, SIG MCX-SPEAR Rifle and SIG SLX Suppressors. The SIG designed system will transform small arms technology to meet the emerging requirements of the U.S. Army.

The grand Opening of the SIG Experience Center (SEC) on the campus of SIG SAUER Academy in Epping, New Hampshire took place in July.  The SEC is a state-of-the-art facility bringing the SIG brand to life in an exciting, hands-on, immersive way.  The SIG Experience Center is home to the SIG SAUER Flagship Store, the SIG SAUER Academy Shooting Center, the SIG SAUER Museum, the exclusive members-only Club 1751, along with a complete conference and events center.  The SIG Experience Center serves as a true extension of the SIG SAUER brand and the corporate showcase to the world.

Ron Cohen, President of SIG SAUER, Inc. was joined by The Honorable Asa Hutchinson, Governor of the State of Arkansas - home to the SIG SAUER Ammunition manufacturing operations -- dignitaries from the State of New Hampshire, and the leadership, employees, and distinguished guests of SIG SAUER to officially cut the ribbon and open the SEC. 

“The SIG Experience Center marks the next phase in our company’s evolution, and we are immensely proud to have the opportunity to share the excitement of our brand and our accomplishments with the world,” began Cohen.  “The timing of this facility is serendipitous as over the next eighteen months we will begin to deliver one of the largest small arms contracts in U.S. history, the Next Generation Squad Weapons to the U.S. Army.  The museum at the SIG Experience Center (SEC) affords us the opportunity to share the story of our military beginnings in 1751 to our emergence as a modern defense industry leader transforming squad-level weapons for the U.S. Army and the world with the XM5, XM250, suppressors and hybrid ammunition.”

In August, the P365-XMACRO was released to the world, bringing more capacity, more shootability, and more concealability to everyday carry with an unprecedented 17+1 round standard capacity into the iconic 1” slim profile of the P365. The pistol is a striker-fired, 9mm, polymer frame pistol featuring the all-new Macro-Compact Grip Module with a standard 1913 accessory rail, an integrally compensated P365 XSERIES optics- ready slide with XRAY3 day/night sights, and flat trigger. The pistol ships with interchangeable small, medium, and large backstraps and (2) two 17-round steel magazines. The P365-XMACRO is optimized for use with the SIG SAUER Electro-Optics FOXTROT1 rail-mounted flashlight and ROMEOZero Elite Micro Red Dot sight.

In 2022, SIG Freedom Days was born with one event in Phoenix, Arizona and the other in Epping, New Hampshire. This was the first-ever total consumer SIG range and shooting experience hosted by SIG SAUER. Attendees had the opportunity to shoot SIG SAUER firearms including the entire newly released SPECTRE Series of guns, the most popular EDC P365 series, the P320 to include the U.S. Army’s P320-M17 and the U.S. Marine’s P320-M18, the MCX rifle in multiple configurations, and an exclusive first look at the soon-to-be-released CROSS PRS and P320-XTEN. Additionally, several attendees had the rare opportunity to shoot the SIG SAUER Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) which includes the MCX-SPEAR and the SIG-LMG.

The events included live daily demonstrations from Team SIG’s professional shooters, Mossberg Professional shooter Jerry Miculek, USCCA, machine gun demonstrations, K9 demonstration with Justin Melnick from the TV Series SEAL Team, and a live book signing with Jack Carr and many more.

In June, the second annual SIG SAUER Hunter Games took place at Queen Mountain Ranch in Evanston, Wyoming. This one-of-a-kind event combined the physical challenges of backcountry hunting with the precision skills of long-range shooting to test the knowledge, fitness and abilities of its participants. In the backdrop of Wyoming’s Uinta Mountain range, the SIG Hunter Games featured a simulated backcountry hunt spread over a two-day shooting challenge.

Ten teams (comprised of a total of 40 competitors including 30 celebrities from a variety of backgrounds and 10 elite guides, all with a variety of skillsets) treked over a simulated backcountry hunt spread during the 2-day challenge using SIG products featuring the CROSS rifle and BDX optics. Each team had a SIG representative with them as they hiked the course of fire to ensure all shooting took place during the selected time intervals and at appropriate stage locations while maintaining scores for all individuals and teams.

Additionally, each team had their own sets of tents, including sleeping bags and pads grouped together at the base camp near the Queen Mountain Ranch.  Throughout the event, teams traversed nearly 16 miles of Wyoming backcountry trails and sent more than 11,000 rounds downrange. All while braving snow, rain and the harsh Wyoming terrain.

In May, the P320-XTEN was introduced, featuring all the performance and reliability of the P320 chambered in the very formidable 10mm caliber. 

“The P320-XTEN is the most powerful P320 SIG has ever built combining the features of our XSERIES models with the punch of the 10mm round.  The superiority of this pistol begins with the all-new XSERIES grip module, designed specifically for 10mm and 45 AUTO calibers, featuring the XSERIES deep trigger undercut, extended beavertail, and aggressive stippling for a high grip making recoil easier to manage,” began Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer, and Executive Vice President Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “Another premium feature of the P320-XTEN is the 5” bull barrel.  The additional mass and weight of the barrel absorb the power of the round lowering recoil and provide exceptional accuracy shot after shot for the premium performance you expect from a P320 and an XSERIES model to become the P320-XTEN.”

The SIG SAUER P320-XTEN is a 10mm, striker-fired pistol featuring a polymer XSERIES 10mm / 45 AUTO grip module, a 5” Bull Barrel, flat XSERIES trigger with a 90-degree break, Nitron finished stainless steel optics ready slide compatible with a ROMEO2 and RMR optic with front and rear serrations, and XRAY3 Day/Night sights.  The P320-XTEN ships with (2) 15round steel magazines and is optimized for use with the SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO2 open reflex red dot sight.

In March, SIG SAUER officially announced the P322, the all-new, U.S. designed and manufactured 22 rimfire pistol.  The P322 offers an unprecedented 21 round capacity, is optics ready, and suppressor-ready right out of the box, all at an affordable price point.

“When SIG SAUER enters a new product category, we do it because we have exciting innovation to offer the consumer - the P322 combines ingenuity, quality, and value for a fun, low-cost plinking experience,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer, and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “The 20+1 round capacity is an industry leader among compact 22 pistols, which means less time loading and more fun shooting on the range.  The P322 stainless-steel frame and polymer grip was ergonomically designed for comfort to fit all hand sizes and is completely ambidextrous.  Another shooter-focused feature is a modular trigger that allows the P322 to be configured with a flat or curved trigger shoe.  This only scratches the surfaces of innovation that we have packed into the P322 and is just a few of the 21 reasons to love the P322.”

The SIG SAUER P322 is a 22 rimfire pistol with class-leading 21 round capacity that offers a low-cost shooting experience in an ergonomic design with an incredibly easy takedown for disassembly.  It features a stainless-steel frame and a polymer grip with a 1913 rail and integrated magwell.  The SAO hammer-fired action on the P322 is completely enclosed and the pistol features an alloy slide that is optic ready and compatible with the new ROMEOZero Elite.  The high visibility fiber-optic front sight and the fully adjustable fiber-optic rear present a crisp, easy-to-see sight picture, while the front and rear cocking serrations ensure effortless slide manipulation.  The P322 is suppressor-ready and includes a threaded barrel adapter, as well as a flat and curved interchangeable trigger shoe.  The P322 features fully ambidextrous controls including manual safety and a reversible magazine catch that make it ideal for both right and left-handed shooters.  The pistol ships with (2) 20-round magazines and a custom designed magazine loader (extended 25-round magazines available as an accessory purchase).  The P322 pistol is optimized for use with the SIG SAUER SRD22X Suppressor, FOXTROT1X light, and ROMEOZero Elite Micro Red-Dot sight. 

In November, SIG SAUER launched the TANGO-MSR to continue leading the industry in light transmission and optical clarity. Utilizing high performance optical clarity and low dispersion glass, SIG continues to set standards for optics excellence. You can count on the TANGO-MSR in any situation thanks to dependable waterproof, shockproof, and fog-proof performance.

In September, SIG SAUER announced the evolution of the most advanced and tested rifle platform in the world with the introduction of the MCX-SPEAR LT.  Built off the foundation of the MCX Virtus the third generation of the MCX combines all the extensive testing, continued product development, and customer/special operations feedback to become the MCX-SPEAR LT. 

“The first generation of the MCX platform was designed to be an AR-15 style platform with added modularity.  The second generation of the MCX, the MCX Virtus, was purpose-built for rugged durability and brought unprecedented modularity.  Now comes the MCX-SPEAR LT, which incorporates the best of both generations and is the culmination of the latest research, development, and innovation in the MCX platform,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc.  “The lightened handguard has the expected rigidity and durability of the MCX, the lower is a familiar SDI, M400-style lower and ambi-bolt catch and release that is designed to fit the legacy VIRTUS uppers for more versatility.  The MCX-SPEAR LT will accept AR-15 style triggers, in addition to the legacy triggers for even more flexibility in the MCX platform.  With the MCX-SPEAR LT also comes the long-awaited addition of the 7.62x39 caliber to the MCX family bringing even more modularity to a platform that simply can’t be matched.  The evolution continues and the MCX-SPEAR LT has raised the bar for modular weapons technology.”

The MCX-SPEAR LT rifle is an aluminum frame rifle with a gas piston operating system featuring a lightweight ergonomic handguard, push-button folding stock with cheek-rest, and a cold hammer forged carbon steel barrel available in 9-inch (300BLK), 11.5-inch (7.62x39 & 5.56), and 16-inch (7.62x39 & 5.56) lengths.  The rifle offers fully ambidextrous controls including bolt catch and release, a SIG QD suppressor-ready flash hider optimized for SIG SAUER QD suppressors, a SIG flatblade match trigger, comes optics ready and can be easily paired with a SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO8 or TANGO6T, and is finished in a Coyote Anodized finish.  The MCX-SPEAR LT is available is 300BLK, 556 NATO, 762x39 calibers.

In October, SIG SAUER was proud to announce the launch of the Venari Soft Point Hunting Ammunition. This round is a traditional soft-point hunting ammunition that utilizes high-quality soft-point bullets in reloadable brass cases. It is available in all popular deer-size and big game calibers.
